Tonight's tale

The old woman of Samuto comes home on windy days

A girl of Samuto in Matsuzaki village left her straw sandals under a pear tree and went missing, and after more than thirty years she suddenly came home, aged and withered. She said she had wanted to see people once more, and vanished again, and since then in Tono people have called days when the wind was noisy "a day when the old woman of Samuto seems likely to come home."
